Dewakan is a mashup of two Malay words: ‘Dewa,’ meaning God, and ‘Makan,’ meaning both simply ‘food’ and ‘to eat’. In other words, ‘food from God’.

The restaurant takes on rare and forgotten indigenous ingredients from peninsular Malaysia,  from sea, mountain, jungle and farm and turn it into beautiful fine dining dishes.

Examples of indigenous products used are kulim (a jungle fruit) ketumpang air (a type of pepper) and bunga kantan (ginger flower).

After stepping out of the lift on the 48th floor, you enter through the kitchen and are greeted by the head chef and taken on a tour of the kitchen and introduced to the local ingredients.

We were then taken to our table at the window overlooking the Twin Towers. 🏙

Seafood are locally sourced from sabah and Penang.

🐟Snapper is aged for 14 days served with edible flowers and dressing pickle roses liquid and lime leaves oil.

🐚 Sea ham brushed with sauce of Buah keranji fruits

🦪 Steamed Pearl clam served with dressing chapripei and bedara Laut fruits

3️⃣ 🐙Grilled cuttlefish sliced kiwi and wrapped with pastry. Inside will be pastel made from moringa herb. Served with caviar from tanjong Malim

4️⃣ 🦆Smokey and savoury Duck Broth from Perak and smoked in house and a little bit of chilli spices

🟥 Roselle Leather, Crab Fat Sauce.

🌱 Served with pickled daikon and ginger, marigold, crest and ketumpang air.

6️⃣ 🥬Grilled Leafy Greens sauced from local organic farm in Pahang  and charcoal grilled brushed with star fruit reduction and served with Fresh Curd and lamb grains.

VERDICT:

Overall, Dewakan has not only earned itself a name on Best 50 Restaurants in Asia, it has also won our hearts in appreciation of the huge effort by the team to provide a wonderful experience for its diners and in sourcing so much rare and exotic ingredients to be incorporated into each courses.

Highly recommended overall. But skip the wine pairing until they get it right.
