If you’re looking for authentic Peranakan cuisine in Singapore, then NonyaBong is perhaps the right place for you. ⁣

The private dining serves both À la carte menu and the “Eat Until Pain”, “Eat Until Pengsan” and “Eat Until Blessed” 8,  10 & 12-course set menus.

Recipes are collected since Uncle Jeffery Chia’s grandparents' days who are both Peranakans and chefs.

📖 Menu

Kueh Pie Tee

Homemade flour cup: turnip, bamboo shoot, prawn and chilli sauce.

Bakwan Kepiting

Minced meat pork ball,  crab meat, cooked in turnip soup.

Otak Otak

Spanish mackerel fish, combined with herbs, chilli and coconut milk. It is then wrapped in banana leaves and grilled to perfection.

(Available for takeaways at $4 per serving)

Roasted Pork & Salted Vegetables

Sambal Prawns

Concoction of onion, chilli and belacan (sambal), tamarind, with prawns

Sambal Hati

Chicken gizzard, liver, pork & prawns cooked with lemongrass and spice paste

Buah Keluak Ayam

Nonya Chap Chai

rempah, soya bean, cabbage, mushroom, black fungus, vermicelli

Sambal prawns with Petai

Mango Salad

Wingbean Salad

Sago Pearl Pudding with Gula Melaka

Steamed sago pearls. Fresh coconut milk and premium gula melaka are then poured into the sago pearls, mixed and served.


VERDICT:

Uncle Jeffery was such an excellent host, weaving in stories of ingredients and Peranakan traditions.

My favourite was the Bakwan Kepiting, Buah Keluak Ayam, Sambal Prawns, Wingbean Salad and Sago Pearl Pudding.

If you’re thinking of changing the environment of your usual dining restaurants, NonyaBong is perhaps the ideal place to get together with friends and for good Peranakan home cook food, of course.

Had a jolly & great dining experience with friends and getting to know the chef’s roots & family recipes.

Portions were huge too that we could even take out the left overs home. Prior reservations have to be made and there is a years ‘s waiting list (next available slot is in April 2024).
