Tamba is the new sister of Kafe Utu, Singapore’s first African restaurant. Both were founded by Canadian Kurt Wagner, who lived on the African continent in his youth. Tamba is named after his Liberian adoptive brother, who died at a young age.

Upon entering the restaurant, there is a little foyer leading to a flight of stairs, with a skylight above sends changing shadows down.

At the entrance to the second floor would lead you to a dramatically lit, lush and lofty space under a thatched roof; the focal point, a colourful and luminous bar along the far wall.

The food menu is ambitious and aims to give diners a taste of West African cuisine, with its signature dishes being the Jollof Rice with sofrito, sakura chicken and smoked pork belly; Tapalapa bread with goat’s milk ricotta, house-smoked honey and smoked bacon butter; and the spicier-than-it-sounds Pepper Soup of blended habanero peppers, seafood and offal.

We selected the tasting menu at $118 per person

VERDICT:

TAMBA is truly a gem. The interior was incredibly beautiful and well thought out!

Everything from the unique dining ware to the Moroccan Salt Wall to the 80s music and the cocktails inspired by the stories encountered by the restaurant owner in West Africa, you’ll find a hidden story behind every single design/item.

The dishes were so so delicious and flavourful! Highly recommend the Jollof rice with sofrito, sakura chicken and smoked pork belly; the Tapalapa bread with goat’s milk ricotta, smoked honey and bacon butter, Grilled lobster; and shuku shuku 🤤
